Sacramento’s NBC affiliate, KCRA, is looking for a full-time Social Media Manager. The Social Media Manager will work with station management on growing KCRA’s social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and station talent pages. The Social Media Manager’s responsibilities include training station staff on best social media practices, identifying “buzzworthy stories”, producing socially targeted content, and executing real-time breaking coverage on social media accounts. There is an emphasis on delivering breaking news and weather accurately and prioritizing user engagement with our multi-platform content offerings. Applicants should be willing to work weekends and/or weekday evenings, as needed.

Responsibilities:
• Manages KCRA’s station social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and more.
• Works with station talent and news management on identifying viral stories that can be shared and discussed across multiple platforms.
• Engages viewers with social discussions (commenting, polls, surveys)
• Identifies and reports trending stories within the market.
• Uses analytics to determine effectiveness of social posts, campaigns and trending topics.
• Works with Digital Media Manager and other news managers on developing social media campaigns during special coverage and breaking news.
• Produces specific content for digital platforms that are targeted to be shared by viewers.
• Leads real-time reporting on social media during breaking news coverage.
• Assists digital editorial team on daily news needs.
• Helps develop training program to teach newsroom staff the most effective ways to use social media in their daily duties.
• Develop community connections and potential partnerships in the social media arena.
• Actively monitor and measure the social media efforts of competitors in the market.
• Find new social media platforms and tools for use by newsroom staff.

Experience:
• More than two years prior experience working for a television news station, daily newspaper or in a digital environment.
• Prior supervisory experience helpful.
• Demonstrated journalism background; strong news judgment; knowledge of legal and ethical issues in digital and social media.
• Demonstrated social media background; knowledge of legal and ethical issues surrounding social media.
• Highly developed digital skill set with experience in content management systems, HTML, CSS, and photo and video editing.
Qualifications Requirements:
• Preferably Bachelors in Journalism or related field.
• Ability to work collaboratively with digital and broadcast journalists.
• Knowledge of editing and AP Stylebook standards.
• Ability to pass writing and editing test.
• Ability to convey complex subject matter clearly and engagingly.
• Ability to catch spelling errors without electronic assistance.
• Ability to manage time and meet multiple daily deadlines for various projects.
• Ability to be flexible in schedule to cover major and/or breaking news events.
• Ability to work with a positive attitude.
• Ability to identify emerging social media platforms and how to best integrate them into daily storytelling.
• Ability to work well in a multitasking environment with frequent interruptions, paying close attention to details.
